Dr Richard Graveling

Now largely retired, Richard currently remains an Associate Ergonomist at IOM.  He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (FCIEHF) and an Honorary Director of the Institute of Ergonomics and Hygiene in Singapore.  Before retiring with over 40 years of research experience, Richard acted as an authoritative advisor to government and EU departments on a number of occasions. He occasionally provides help and advice, including serving on several European and International Standards Working Groups.

Dr Loh Tzu Yang

Assistant Professor Loh Tzu Yang serves as the Co-Director for the Master of Science in Safety Health and Environmental Technology at the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore. With over ten years of experience in regional safety & health leadership positions across different private sector companies, Dr Loh brings a wealth of practical knowledge to the programme. He holds a Master of Science in Safety Health and Environmental Technology from the National University of Singapore and a Doctor of Philosophy in Maritime Engineering from the University of Tasmania (Australia) which he obtained under the Antarctic Gateway Partnership Scholarship Programme. Dr. Loh’s research interests are in the area of risk analysis, with a particular focus on fuzzy system dynamics. He holds the certification of a certified industrial hygienist (CIH) from the board for global EHS credentialing (USA) and is a registered workplace safety and health officer under the Ministry of Manpower.

Ms Lydia Law

Lydia is an established research professional and ‘bridge builder’ with over 15 years of experience leading and managing cross-disciplinary projects and programs. Following her training at Imperial College and Stanford University, Lydia developed and honed a robust set of technical and research management skills, in addition to growing her interest at DSO National Laboratory in thermal physiology and human performance research.

Her leadership and strong systems-thinking approaches have been instrumental in spearheading significant projects, including the development of a pioneering return-to-duty thermoregulatory assessment, the first prospective cohort study investigating training-related injuries, and combat load studies that have brought about notable improvements in policy and practice.

With her recent appointment as Co-Director of HRPC, Lydia strives to continue to build bridges, catalyse advancements and push boundaries in the field of heat resilience and performance research, with the aim to deliver meaningful impact and contributions to the community.

Mr Akesh Abhilash

Akesh is an Of Counsel in the Litigation and Dispute Management Practice Group. He handles a broad range of commercial disputes and contractual claims, and has also acted in insolvency, criminal, probate, and matrimonial matters. Akesh also advises on matters relating to regulatory compliance. He is an Accredited Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre as well as panel Mediator with the Bangalore International Mediation, Arbitration, and Conciliation Centre (BIMACC).

Akesh also volunteers with the Singapore Law Society, Pro Bono Services Office, by serving as Defence Counsel under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS).

Akesh read law at Singapore Management University where he graduated Magna cum Laude in 2013, and was a winner of the Drew & Napier Prize for the Top Student in Advocacy. He was also part of the SMU team which qualified for the final rounds of the 8th International Chamber of Commerce International Mediation Competition, and a semi-finalist in the 2012 Bain & Company Case Competition. He graduated with a Masters in Law from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 2014, where he was the graduation speaker for the LL.M class.

Akesh was called to the Singapore Bar in 2015. He is a member of the Law Society of Singapore and the Singapore Academy of Law.

Mr Alvin Gan

Mr. Alvin Gan is the Radiation Safety Officer (S.E Asia + Korea) for Varian Medical System, a Siemens Healthineer company. Varian delivers radiation oncology treatment devices and software for treating cancer through radiotherapy, proton therapy and brachytherapy.

He is responsible for leading the oversight and coordination of radiation safety compliance activities in South East Asia region and acts as the principal subject matter expert in radiation safety and protection. 

Prior to joining Varian, he was the Occupational Safety Program Lead in University of California, Davis (UC Davis Medical Center) and was managing the occupational safety programs in the hospital, and Safety and Health Manager in National University of Singapore (NUS) and was co-leading the radiation safety program in NUS campus. He has close to twelve years of working experience as a Safety and Health Professional in industries spanning from shipbuilding and ship-repairing, institute of higher education, medical hospital and medical device manufacturing.

He received his advanced radiation safety officer training from Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) and European Nuclear Training and Tutoring Institute (ENSTTI). He has a Master’s Degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology (with specialization in Industrial Hygiene) and holds several professional certifications including Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner (CMIOSH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Ms Anita Rios

Ms Anita Fernandez-Rios is a professional consultant and auditor with more than 35 years of professional working experience in the fields of human factors, environment, and occupational health and safety (EHS).  Ms. Fernandez-Rios has worked as environmental engineer, OHS auditor, consultant, trainer, and manager. She has worked for a variety of sectors including manufacturing, oil and gas, petrochemical, iron and steel, construction, academe, and information technology.

Anita is a qualified environmental practitioner (QEP) with the Board for Global EHS Credentialing, USA and is the Regional Coordinator of QEP and EPI Certifications for APAC. She is also a certified office ergonomics evaluator (COEE Certificate No. 5201) with the Humanscale, USA.

Currently, Anita is with BlackBerry as the Sr. Manager, Environment, Health and Safety for Asia Pacific, Europe, and Middle East. She is based in Singapore and is responsible for BlackBerry’s global program on occupational health and safety, EHS legal compliance and sustainability.  BlackBerry Singapore Pte Ltd has been awarded the Organizational Champion (Excellence) Award 2022 by the Singapore Health Promotion Board featuring ergonomics as implemented in BlackBerry Singapore office.

Dr Asankhaya Sharma

Dr. Asankhaya Sharma is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Securade.ai, a deep-tech startup with the vision to make the world a safer place. Dr. Sharma is a well known technology expert, author, and public speaker. He has more than 15 years of experience in the technology and software development fields holding technical leadership roles at startups and large enterprises.
Prior to Securade.ai he was the global director of innovation and incubation at Veracode, an application security company. Before that, he was the head of R&D at SourceClear (acquired by CA Technologies in 2018), the first software security company focussed on open-source security and software supply chain.
He has a PhD in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Singapore Management University (SMU).

Mr Daryl Sng

Daryl Sng is a Senior Engineer in Micron Semiconductor with accumulation of 6 years of EHS experience with coverage on several other different Health and Safety programmes such as Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Wellbeing, EHS management systems, Audits, and Emergency planning and response. He graduated with a Masters in Safety, Health and Environmental Technology with additional background in Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering and has worked in other semiconductor and Oil & Gas companies.

Key contributions thus far includes:

  • Planning, coordination and participation in 2019 NFEC Mass Fire Evacuation Drill in collaboration with SCDF to perform HRI exercise in GLOBALFOUNDRIES as an opening event,
  • Completion of  an ergonomics assessment project and implementation of measures across network that enable cost avoidance of US$5million.

Mr Edwin Yap

Edwin Yap, Vice President of Chubb Global Risk Advisors Pte Ltd since 2005, has more than thirty years of HSE experience under his belt. In addition to his dual Master’s degrees – Master of Science (Safety, Health and Environmental Technology) and Master of Science (Industrial System Engineering) – National University of Singapore, Edwin is also Singapore MOM-approved WSH Auditor, WSH Council-approved CultureSAFE and Total WSH Consultant.

Edwin plays an active role in Singapore’s HSE arena, by holding key positions in numerous educational and professional associations. These include President, NUS Alumni SHE Society, Board Member, National Fire and Civil Emergency Council (NFEC),  Chairman, Industrial Premises Committee (IPC) and Past President, Human Factors Ergonomics Society of Singapore (HFESS) and Singapore Institute of Safety Officer (SISO).

Ms Hafizalena Osman

Nor Hafizalena Osman, currently working as Principal Industrial Hygiene at Upstream HSE Business at PETRONAS. Has more than 22 years working experience in the field of Industrial Hygiene with 16 years experiences in oil and gas industry.

Being the technical specialist, played as key role in strategizing and driving the development of sustainable noise risk management program including noise risk assessment, monitoring and control strategy as one of business key focus area during design and operation stages.

Year 2022 to 2023 leading the business initiatives to establish clear strategy on maintenance guideline for noise engineering control equipment.

Mr Jai Prakash

Jai Prakash S/O Kanagersundram has been advocating for pragmatic Environment Health and Safety (EHS) solutions for his clients with the aim of making health and safety a relevant component of all businesses. His keen eye for details and aspiration to improve current work practices has been the value generator to boost the health and safety climate for businesses, of any size.

Jai is also a Ministry of Manpower registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO), Singapore Civil Defense Force Registered Fire Safety Manager (FSM), Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist, Certified Internal Auditor ISO 9001, 45001 & 14001 Management Systems and bizSAFE Level 2 Risk Champion. He was also an ex-Workplace Safety and Health Inspector with the Ministry of Manpower (Occupational Health and Safety Department).

He received his education at the Singapore University of Social Sciences with a Bachelor’s in Human Factors in Safety. As a first step towards giving back to the community, he is a volunteer with the IOSH Singapore Branch, facilitating free EHS webinars to share knowledge on managing workplaces effectively.
Jai is currently practising as a Senior Health and Safety Consultant with Mackin EHS, an award winning workplace specialist with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, the UK, and the USA.

Ms Kam Wai Kuen

Wai Kuen is the Assistant Director for Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) in the Singapore General Hospital, leading a team of 6 staff in managing the hospital WSH program since 2008.  Prior to SGH, her career in WSH management took her from the NUS Faculty of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins Singapore and to the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, all of which provided a rich foundation in biomedical sciences and laboratory safety management.

Wai Kuen has been a Registered WSH Officer with the Ministry of Manpower since 1997.  In the past 10 years, she considers her most significant achievement to be her contribution to the planning and design for safety for the Outram Community Hospital building.  The project was in line with her interest in making working life safer and healthier for colleagues through design improvement in facilities, equipment and processes. 

Professionally, Wai Kuen has contributed greatly to the establishment and development of WSH in the healthcare industry, having presented papers and posters in various occupational health and safety conferences and meetings locally and internationally.  Current WSH interests are in management of WRMSD and healthcare worker abuse and harassment.

On the national level, Wai Kuen contributes her expertise and experience in the WSH Council (Industry Capability Building) Committee and she also represents SingHealth in the WSH Council (Healthcare) Committee.

Ms Masfarita Mustaffa

Masfarita is the Principal of Industrial Hygiene at the Malaysian National Oil Company, PETRONAS where she heads the Industrial Hygiene Team at Project Delivery and Technology (PD&T) Division. She specializes in implementing the requirements of industrial hygiene into becoming Best In Class practices within PETRONAS’ project execution that significantly led to improved capital project’s health and safety execution. Masfarita is a Professional Member of Malaysian Board of Technologists (Ts.), Associate Member of British Occupational Hygiene Society (AFOH) and Member of Malaysian Industrial Hygiene Association as well as the Human Factor and Ergonomic Society of Malaysia. With over 17 years of oil and gas experience, Masfarita is now actively driving the Human Factor Working Committee for PETRONAS PD&T as the Secretary. Masfarita holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) from the University Technology PETRONAS and a Master in Science (Environmental Biotechnology) from The University of Manchester.
